What is an EV Fire Blanket?

An EV fire blanket is a specialized large-scale safety device designed specifically to contain and control electric vehicle fires, particularly those involving lithium-ion batteries.

• Material: Made from high-grade fire-resistant materials such as fiberglass, high-silica fabric, or heat-resistant silicone-coated fabric, capable of withstanding temperatures of 1,000–1,600 °C without burning or melting.

• Size: Available in dimensions designed to fully cover entire vehicles, including sedans and SUVs.

• Keynote: It does not "extinguish" the fire completely on its own; rather, it acts as a tool to manage and contain the situation effectively.

How It Works

The core principle is to fully cover the vehicle as tightly as possible to achieve the following:

1. Restrict external oxygen supply: Blocks airflow to the fire, visibly reducing open flames quickly. Note that batteries generate oxygen internally during thermal runaway, so this method cannot stop the chemical chain reaction on its own.

2. Contain flames and sparks: Prevents fire from spreading to nearby vehicles or property and blocks radiant heat transfer.

3. Limit toxic smoke dispersion: Slows the release of harmful fumes such as hydrogen fluoride and carbon monoxide and contains ejected battery debris.

4. Reduce explosion and re-ignition risks: Stabilizes the surrounding environment to buy critical time until professional emergency responders arrive to perform proper cooling and mitigation.

Important Reminder: The blanket cannot stop internal thermal runaway reactions by itself — heat and combustion may continue inside the battery pack, and re-ignition remains possible after the visible fire subsides. Professional intervention is always required.

Recommended Applications

• Parking buildings and underground lots

• EV charging stations

• Public transport hubs and vehicle storage facilities

Safety Precautions

• Deployment requires at least two trained people to ensure fast, proper coverage.

• Select the appropriate size for your vehicle types and verify that the product meets recognized safety standards.

• Do not remove the blanket after deployment without supervision from emergency personnel, as flammable gases may accumulate underneath.
